A chapter dinner meeting with one hour of CE, is generally held on the third Wednesday of each month. Dinner meetings are usually held at Vinny’s Italian Grill, 11105 Leavells Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22407. They usually start with a get together at 6:30 p.m., dinner at 7:00 p.m. and the speaker at 7:30 p.m.

Program: Sharing Economy
This course will discuss the sharing economy. The sharing economy is an economic system in which assets or services are shared between private individuals either free or for a fee, typically by using the internet. Some common players in the sharing economy include Uber, Lyft and Airbnb. The course will discuss which activities are considered part of the sharing economy and identify taxpayers who are self‐employed, versus operating a hobby. The course will discuss estimated taxes and which tax forms are used for reporting income. Lastly, it will cover independent contractor versus employee rules, and retirement plans.
Speaker: Ty Gaines, EA
Tynisa (Ty) Gaines EA, has a B.S. in Industrial Organizational Psychology from the University of Illinois, and a M.P.A in Public Personnel Management from Troy University. Ty is a fellow of the National Association of Enrolled Agents (NAEA)’s prestigious National Tax Practice Institute (NTPI) which specializes in audit representation before the IRS. Ty is also a graduate of NAEAs’ Schuldiner/Smollan Leadership Academy which focuses on non‐profit board governance. In 2015, Ty received the EA of the year award from the Virginia Society of Enrolled Agents (VASEA) and is the President of VASEA. Ty has published numerous tax articles and two e‐books, Tax‐ish: Teens 1.0 and Tax‐ish: Teens 2.0 geared at teens or anyone preparing their first tax return. Additionally, Ty’s teaching experience includes tax courses for VASEA chapters, Northern Virginia Community College and the Virginia Tech Income Tax School.
