Without a doubt, there has been a huge contrast between 2019 and 2020. In fact, Ben Franklin’s sage comment, “We ain’t out of the woods yet!” could easily apply to 2021. A solution being used by tax professionals to help their clients generate needed cash flow is cost segregation. Fred Clapp will provide a timely overview of best practices involving:
* Why a cost segregation study
* Qualified clients
* Compliance Issues
* Back to the Future
* Countdown for 2020 and 2021 returns
* Action Plan to become a tax hero
Speaker: Fred W. Clapp
Fred Clapp is the regional director for Cost Segregation Services, Inc.(CSSi), the Nation’s premier engineering-based cost segregation firm. A seasoned asset management professional, Fred was instrumental in building a company that became part of Bally’s Fitness, spent 16 years with Smith Barney where he managed $120MM of foundation and endowment funds and received a Certified Investment Management Professional designation from Consulting Group. Fred, and his wife Pam, moved to NoVA in 2001 for family reasons and he joined CSSI in 2012. He has completed over 300 cost segregation studies for properties ranging in size from $125k to $85MM and serves as a liaison between commercial property owners, their tax advisors, and CSSI’s engineering tax team to ensure each project is implemented and completed. Fred has a focus on the Repair Regulations and their alignment with the Tangible Property Regulations, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, and the CARES Act. His role is to be the calculations expert for helping tax advisors be compliant with those regulations and find additional depreciation and expense benefits for their commercial property clients.
